ANNNUAL GENERAL MEETING
A small but hardy band of loyal members turned out for this year’s MML AGM.

As usual, we took time to reflect upon the past year before setting our sights on the future, which will comprise four guest lectures, three in-house events, a nostalgia session from our video archives, an inter-society visit, an auction and a Christmas celebration. There is also the prospect of a magic luncheon later in the year, to replace our traditional banquet.

Thankfully, our finances are currently in a healthy state, and so the subscription fee remains the same for 2023.  Also being kept the same is our team of Officers, which was re-elected  en bloc.

Some discussion centred upon the future of our HQ and library, and members will be kept informed of any developments.

Carl Pearson was reinstated as President for a further year, and Allan Clarke took home the Prerident’s Hecate award for contributing to the life of the MML in so many ways.
Paul Guy was appointed as President Elect for 2024 ensuring a smooth transition of leadership

This year, the Les Brooks Trophy for contributions to the MeMeL went to Roger Woods. It was proposed that, in future, this should be recognised by the awarding of a certificate to the winner and that all contributors should be eligible to receive it, whether League members or not. It is hoped that this broadening of scope will give the award a new lease of life.

It was recognised that only a dozen or so members will be in a position to attend meetings in the foreseeable future, as our numbers have been depleted in various ways. Fortunately, this situation has been counter-balanced by a growth in ‘virtual’ members, as around 50 people now receive the MeMeL and four non-members actually pay for a paper copy.  Thus, although the MML may be dwindling internally, its influence continues to expand within the wider magic community.
