Grand Auction of Magic
Numbers at our September auction meeting were augmented by several visitors, all looking for a bargain, and our guest bidders were very welcome.
Auctioneer Brian Berry wielded his gavel, aided and abetted by Roger, Paul and myself, and with Allan at the money desk. Bidding was brisk, if low, and we must have got through hundreds of items in just over three hours. A healthy sum was raised owing to the generous donation of all the Iots.
Central to our sale this year were many items from Bob Benyon, including a number of Supreme props still in excellent condition. There were also the effects of Derrick Smith, combined with items from Anne which had been carried forward from last year. In addition, Roger had added some items, including books. Everyone seemed to go away with some newly-acquired magical apparatus, accompanied by piles of free magazines.

Refreshments, including some delicious home-made cakes, were on tap throughout the afternoon, courtesy of Maggie, and there was the usual banter which makes such events so enjoyable.
The final amount raised was further enhanced this year by the sale of our library to a book dealer, and the separate sale of bound Abras. It is hoped that this may enable us to purchase some ‘fit-up’ staging, which we need at our new premises.
